Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool
The ex-Blues forward came off the bench before picking out the top corner in the 89th minute to cancel out what looked to be a deciding Eden Hazard goal.
Mohamed Salah was in the thick of the action early on in the late Saturday kick off, but spooned a presentable chance into the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Alisson was then out smartly at the other end to deny fellow Brazilian Willian, whose initial touch was just too heavy.
But he was powerless to stop the Blues soon after when Mateo Kovacic played in that man Eden Hazard, who picked out the corner to cap a sublime move on 26 minutes.
Sadio Mane did his best to prevent the Belgian doing an more damage, picking up a booking from referee Andre Marriner for a crunching challenge just before the break.
The Senegalese almost went one better the other side of half time when he took a pass from Roberto Firmino, danced through the bodies and forced Kepa Arrizabalaga into a fine save at his near post.
And the Reds passed up another opportunity in the 70th minute via the boot of substitute Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Swiss forward clipped wide from 12 yards out when one-on-one with Arrizabalaga.
David Luiz was then forced to clear off the line as Firmino headed low towards goal from James Milner’s cross.
But Sturridge ended the resistance at the death with a sumptuous, curling effort into the top corner to preserve Liverpool’s unbeaten start.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now face Manchester City next weekend with top spot in the EPL at stake.
Manchester City 2-0 Brighton
Manchester City were made to work hard for their win over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
They had to be patient against the stubborn visitors, but Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock after being picked out at the far post by Leroy Sane in the 29th minute.
Sergio Aguero doubled the advantage on 65 minutes when he danced through the Brighton bodies, exchanged a one-two with Sterling and found the bottom corner.
It was a victory to take the defending champions top of the EPL table, ahead of Liverpool’s late game at Chelsea.
Huddersfield 0-2 Tottenham
Tottenham earned all three points for a dominant display against struggling Huddersfield, with Harry Kane at the double.
Kane headed Spurs ahead in impressive style from Kieran Trippier’s cross after an excellent, foraging break down the right from the Londoners.
The lead was doubled shortly after when the England captain slotted home from the penalty spot after Danny Rose’s tumble in the area.
Huddersfield so nearly had a morsel of hope just before half time but Laurent Depoitre’s volley crashed away off the crossbar.
And that was as good as it got, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men collecting a valuable win in West Yorkshire.
West Ham 3-1 Manchester United
West Ham deepened the gloom around Manchester United with a dominant performance at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s side looked bereft of ideas as the Hammers struck three times in the lunchtime sunshine to sink the Red Devils.
Felipe Anderson rattled the visitors with the opening goal inside five minutes.
Veteran Pablo Zabaleta did the hard yards before squaring for the club-record signing, who evaded keeper David de Gea.
United were decidedly flat but finally troubled the home side’s goal when Romelu Lukaku headed into the side-netting on 23 minutes.
And their misery deepened just before the break.
Andriy Yarmolenko was given an age to potter across the edge of the box before popping in a shot that deflected in off the hapless, helpless, hopeless Victor Lindelof.
The hosts had keeper Lukasz Fabianski to thank in the 64th minute when he produced a brilliant, one-handed save low to his right to deny Marouane Fellaini’s booming header.
Substitute Marcus Rashford’s speculative near-post flick was rewarded with a goal in the 71st minute.
It also drowned out the jeers as Paul Pogba was replaced by Juan Mata seconds earlier.
But Marko Arnautovic had other ideas three minutes later, latching on to an impeccable Mark Noble through ball before firing past De Gea.
Arsenal 2-0 Watford
Arsenal left it late to see off Watford at the Emirates on Saturday.
Alex Lacazette missed a golden opportunity early on when he pinched the ball from a dithering Craig Cathcart before lofting wide to the left of goal.
The breakthrough finally came when Alex Iwobi’s pacey low cross deflected in of the leg of Cathcart, with Lacazette waiting to pounce.
It took the wind out of the Hornets’ sails and Mesut Ozil made it two on 83 minutes as he polished off Lacazette’s cross.
Unai Emery’s side have now won five on the bounce to put their awful EPL start firmly to bed.
Everton 3-0 Fulham
Everton are back in track in the Premier League after a big win over Fulham at Goodison Park.
The visitors should have been ahead when Ryan Sessegnon arrived at the far post before side-footing his close-range effort against the crossbar.
But the Toffees started the second period brightly after a stop-start first half – and they forced a penalty just after the break.
Gylfi Sigurdsson couldn’t take advantage, clipping straight down the middle and away off the bar.
The Iceland international atoned, however, stroked in on 56 minutes to earn the lead after Fulham failed to clear their lines.
Cenk Tosun helped the hosts pull clear ten minutes later when he nodded in Theo Walcott’s floated cross.
And Sigurdsson curled in his second in the 89th minute on a chastening afternoon for Everton’s promoted opponents.
Newcastle 0-2 Leicester
Leicester had enough to come away from St James’ Park with all three points after seeing off toothless Newcastle.
Ricardo Pereira picked out the side-netting with an early sighter for the Foxes, before Mohamed Diame headed wide at the other end.
Claude Puel’s side went ahead, though, on the half hour mark as Jamie Vardy lashed in a penalty following DeAndre Yedlin’s flying handball.
Harry Maguire made it two with a display of dominance in the Toon box to head home late in the second half.
Wolves 2-0 Southampton
Wolves continued their impressive Premier League return with a patient victory over Southampton at Molineux.
Home keeper Rui Patricio had to be smart to deny Mohamed Elyounoussi, as the Saints briefly threatened an unlikely opener.
Ivan Cavaleiro scored his first top flight goal as the clock ticked down with a firm finish, after fellow substitute Adama Traore turned on the jet shoes to leave Southampton trailing in his wake.
Jonny then prodded through the legs of keeper Alex McCarthy to seal the deal late on.
