2019 Presidency: Buhari appointee,Daniel Onjeh that Obasanjo’s endorsement towards Atiku is a joke

Daniel Onjeh, a Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Benue South primary election, has described ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of his erstwhile deputy, Atiku Abubakar as Nigeria’s President in 2019 as a joke.

He recounted Obasanjo’s failures as President yesterday at a press conference he hosted at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.

According to Onjeh, the former President was not qualified to present himself as an opinion moulder ahead of the 2019 elections having led the country when money politics, impunity, and high profile political killings were the order of the day.

Obasanjo had made public his support for Atiku’s candidacy in the next general election; declaring that he would defeat incumbent Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Onjeh, a former President of National Association of Nigerian Students during Obasanjo’s reign, told journalists: History will not forgive some of us just as Obasanjo said God will not forgive him, if he ever supported Atiku’, if he some of us who have been at the vanguard of the less privileged and oppressed on the society pretend not to know what is going on or enter into amnesia.

The Nigerian electorates forget too easily otherwise some people will not be celebrated in the society today.

It is only in Nigeria that people who perform abysmally while in office capitalise on the collective amnesia of the masses to relaunch themselves into prominence as opinion moulders.

Were this not the case, people will not take Obasanjo’s endorsement of Atiku seriously.

Ghana-must-go politics and impunity reached its peak under Obasanjo’s administration. Governors were removed by force in violation of the constitution. We cannot forget the attempt to remove Chris Ngige from office during Obasanjo’s administration.

We also had many high profile political assassinations. We had the killing of Bola Ige, Harry Marshal, and a host of others.

Onjeh, who is also the Chairman governing board of Project Development Agency, PRODA, further claimed the cabal allegedly ganging-up against President Buhari were doing so out of selfishness.

His words: Cabal ganging-up against Buhari’s reelection do not do so in the interest of Nigeria as they would like to portray to the general public. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into this current and endless circle of misery Nigerians are ensnared.
Strong political will is required to bring Nigeria out of the woods. This is what past leaders lack. President Buhari has distinguished himself by exhibiting sufficient will to do the right thing
