A number of domestic violence cases have been made public this past week and a Twitter user visited one of the
victims but what he discovered made him conclude that “the system is utterly broken”.
According to Morris Monye, when he visited one of the ladies whose case of domestic abuse was made to trend on social media, he discovered that she’s been ‘forced’ to move back in with her husband and none of those who are expected to intervene in situations like this are doing anything.
He said the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, are yet to contact the woman and that the police have collected bribe and let the husband go free.
He added that the woman returned to the police to complain again that she is being threatened by her husband with more violence. But the police told her that “she too like wahala” and asked her to settle them before they do anything.
The husband has now allegedly taken to threatening his wife’s mother with death because she tried to intervene.
Mr Monye, who said he has audio proof of his meeting with the victim, concluded from his findings that the police are “utterly corrupt and on the side of the husband.”
