President Muhammadu Buhari will be addressing Nigerians on Monday, May 18, 2020, as the first phase of the easing of lockdown and restrictions for the containment of the coronavirus disease comes to an end.
This was just as the president on Sunday, May 17, 2020, received members of the Presidential Task Force on covid-19 led by its Chairman and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the presidential villa for briefing and recommendations on the first phase of the gradual easing of lockdown for the coronavirus pandemic
This was disclosed by the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Aliyu Sani, during a television programme on Channels Television.
In his response to a question, Aliyu said that the task force has been monitoring closely the obedience to the ease of lockdown guidelines.

According to Sani Aliyu, ‘’We have given our recommendations to the President and we will wait for his decision on the next phase of ease of lockdown tomorrow. We have been monitoring quite closely the obedience to the ease of lockdown guidelines.
‘’Whatever decision we take is in the best interest of Nigerians. We are trying to save lives and at the same time balance it up with the economy. No country on earth can afford a lockdown for a prolonged period of time. It will be dangerous to the economy.’’
Dr. Aliyu noted that the task force has made its recommendation to the president and so everyone will have to wait for his decision on Monday.
