Arsenal second bid including a player-plus-cash for Atletico Madrid star midfielder Thomas Partey has been instantly rejected, according to report from The Guardian.
A bid in the region of €25m plus a player was rejected few days back and it is understood Arsenal returned with a new offer of the same amount plus out of favour midfielder Matteo Guendouzi . This was also turned down by Atlético on Monday, with Arsenal having previously indicated they were unwilling to match Partey’s release clause.
Mikel Arteta is ready to sell Guendouzi this summer in order to boost his transfer budget or use the highly rated midfielder as part of potential swap deals.
Matteo Guendouzi has been out of favor featuring last against Brighton after many disciplinary issues with the club including the tunnel bust-up with Brighton striker, Maupay.
However, Atletico have rebuffed Arsenal’s latest move for their sought-after midfielder and are still in the process of trying to extend Partey’s contract.
The Atlético manager, Diego Simeone, is desperate to keep Partey, who joined the club in 2013 and has two years to run on his current deal.
Atletico want to reward Partey with improved terms to reflect his growing role at the club and also increase his buy-out clause.
Partey has two years left to run on his current Atletico deal and is reportedly now favouring a new contract having previously considered a move to Arsenal.
Having struggled for regular playing time at Atletico in the past, this season saw Partey become a key member of Simeone’s squad, racking up more minutes on the pitch in the league than ever before.
Partey was particularly impressive in Atletico’s surprise victory over Liverpool in the Champions League knockout phase pre-lockdown.
Surprisingly, however, Partey committed the most errors leading to an opposition shot on goal in LaLiga this season (7), according to Whoscored.
