Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has finally put an end to speculation after putting pen to paper on a new contract at Arsenal.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta revealed the club were close to agreeing a new deal with their captain after Aubameyang scored in their 3-0 win over Fulham on the opening day of the new Premier League season.
“I’m really positive we are going to get it done very soon and hopefully in the next few days you will get some news,” Arteta told BT Sport after the game.
Aubameyang then further teased fans that an announcement about his new contract was imminent, simply tweeting an hourglass emoji on Tuesday morning.
The club have now confirmed that the forward has put pen to paper on a new deal in a major boost for Arsenal, who have been desperate to keep the prolific goalscorer.
Arsenal went live on Instagram, first giving fans a tour of the stadium before putting Aubameyang in front of the camera.
The striker went on to tell fans he was delighted to finally ‘Sign Da Ting’.
Aubameyang has netted 55 goals in 86 league appearances, including 22 in his last two campaigns, and those goals would have been difficult to replace.
The new contract is thought to be worth around £250,000-a-week.
Speaking earlier this month, Gunners legend Ian Wright underlined Aubameyang’s importance to the squad, saying: “To be honest, I think he will be the most significant signing Mikel can make.
“We do need to make that happen, simply because of what he brings to that team. When you look at the chances created for Arsenal, they were 16th in the league and he still scored the amount of goals he scored.
“So if you can imagine, we can start creating more with the players we have signed – the Willians and people like that – then he is going to score more goals. It is imperative that he signs.”
Arsenal are due to face West Ham United on Saturday and will be looking to keep up their good form, having won the Community Shield on penalties and comfortably earned three points in their opening league fixture.
