National Power Grid Collapses, As TCN Commences Grid Restoration

Kaduna Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company have announced that the national power grid collapsed on Sunday afternoon and TCN has since commenced grid restoration.

This incident have plunged the country into a total blackout.

Kaduna Electric disclosed in a message to its customers on its Twitter handle, saying, “We regret to inform you that the loss of power supply in our franchise – Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states – is as a result of the collapse of the national grid. The collapse occurred at about 11:26 am this morning.

“Supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is back up. We regret all inconveniences.”

Also, EKEDC sent a message to its customers on Twitter, saying, “The outage you’re experiencing is due to a system collapse on the National Grid. We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible. Please bear with us.”

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah has confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the nation’s electricity grid experienced multiple trippings on Sunday morning, which led to the collapse of the system and also apologized to Nigerians and customers over the national grid collapse.

The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) regrets to inform electricity consumers nationwide that at 11:25 am today, the nation’s electricity grid experienced multiple trippings, which led to the collapse of the system”.

“Effort is, however, ongoing to ensure full restoration nationwide.

“We regret the inconvenience this has caused electricity consumers.”

TCN has started grid restoration.
