The bird caused the fight from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow to be delayed more than 20 minutes.
There are many reasons for a flight being delayed, but a pigeon on the loose in the plane’s cabin isn’t typically one of them.
That’s exactly what happened, however, when a bird got caught inside an Aeroflot plane this weekend, flying around the seats and the crew, the Daily Mail reported. The bird caused the fight from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow to be delayed more than 20 minutes.
“Such a determined pigeon, I bet it was trying to migrate back to its family or bring them something from the capital city,” one person posted online, according to the Daily Mail.
The scrappy bird likely flew onto the plane as it was being cleaned between flights, and then stuck around. No passengers were on board at the time.
A video of the incident obtained by the British outlet shows the pigeon flying around the empty plane and checking out the galley before a member of the cabin crew opens the cabin door.
his isn’t the first time an animal caused a plane to be delayed. In July, a Jetstar flight headed from Australia’s Gold Coast to Adelaide had to wait out a tiny turtle on the tarmac. The turtle crossing took about four minutes and the little animal was relocated to a less populated area.
Last year, a Spirit Airlines flight was delayed from Orlando when the plane had a close call with an alligator making its way across the runway toward a pond. And in 2017, a 450-pound bearded seal had to be removed from an airport in Alaska, causing The Alaska Department of Transportation to jokingly warn pilots of “low sealings” at the airport there.
If your flight is delayed, it’s always a good idea to make sure you know your rights as a passenger and stay near the gate in case new information comes through.
