Stray bullet hits noodles seller after police allegedly fired shots to disperse protesting women in Cross River

A noodles seller in Igwo community of Cross River has been hospitalized after she was hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday night, April 14, in Cross River state. The woman was allegedly shot at by men of the Mopol 75 Squad of the Nigerian Police Force, Cross River Command. The officers were trying to disperse the crowd during a face-off with women of Igwo community in Obudu local government area of the state. The yet-to-be-identified noodles seller, who was present at the scene of the clash, is reportedly undergoing treatment in a medical facility in the state. An eye witness told CrossRiverwatch that the police officers fired bullets and tear gas at the protesting women who stripped naked to express their displeasure. "As at the time I left there around 9:30PM, the shooting continued and the Mopol had also fired tear gas with the women stripping bare," the eyewitness said. Any Nigerians with the account balance less than N5,000 will benefit from Conditional Cash transfer

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, says urban poor dwellers with an account balance of N5,000 or less will be among the beneficiaries of the Federal Government Conditional Cash Transfer scheme. The minister made this known when she fielded questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday, April 14. She added that Nigerians who buy N100 call credit are also people who will be considered poor and vulnerable and will be allowed to benefit from the scheme. 50 Year Woman wakes up in a body bag at funeral home after doctors mistakenly declared her dead

A woman miraculously came back to life as funeral parlor workers were about to start preparing her body for burial after a doctor at a private clinic in east-central Paraguay declared her dead. Gladys Rodríguez Duarte, who is an ovarian cancer patient, was rushed to San Fernando Clinic in the city of Coronel Oviedo on Saturday morning after her high blood pressure increased. A Paraguay National Police report said the 50-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital at 9:30am local time and was checked by Dr. Heriberto Vera. Dr. Vera declared Rodríguez Duarte dead at 11:20am before breaking the news to her husband Maximino Duarte Ferreira and daughter Sandra Duarte. The physician confirmed her cause of death as cervical cancer. China approves two Coronavirus vaccines for human trials

China has approved the trial of two Coronavirus vaccines on humans, as the government aims to prevent a re-occurence of the disease in the country. According to state owned news agency Xinhua, the Chinese Government approved the two experimental vaccines created by a Beijing-based unit of Sinovac Biotech and by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products that is affiliated to state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group, and wants to start testing the vaccines on humans as it has successfully carried out tests on animals. "We can confirm now that three particular vaccines are being tested in China, and the National Health Commission has said it will have to clear a number of conditions before they can enable mass production of the vaccines globally," Hong Kong based Sarah Clarke said to AlJazeera on Tuesday. COVID-19: Lagos discovers 119 people with symptoms in house to house search

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said a total of 119 people with COVID-19 symptoms have been identified in the state following a house to house search. Abayomi disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday, April 14. He said a total of 118,000 households had been reached in the search of possible COVID-19 cases in communities. The Lagos State Government had announced on Thursday, April 9, that it has commenced a house to house search to find possible Coronavirus patients (read here). He said community search was activated to limit the spread of the disease in the state which had the highest number of COVID-19 patients in the country. A group of suspected teenage robbers cried for mercy as they were tortured after they were allegedly caught robbing in Ikotun, Lagos. Residents of Igando and Ikotun in Lagos State fearfully kept vigil on Monday night, April 13, as robbers reportedly went from house to house. Bahrain turns car park into ICU for COVID-19 patients

Bahrain has turned a car park near the capital Manama into an intensive care unit with 130 beds for patients infected with the novel coronavirus, in a first in the Gulf. The new ICU in the covered car park was set up as a precautionary measure in case of a spike in cases of the COVID-19 respiratory disease, officials said. A 41-year-old woman stripped naked and jumped on top of a police car following a court appearance for flouting Spain’s coronavirus lockdown. The woman was first arrested after neighbours alerted police to a woman streaking during the daily round of applause for emergency workers in the Costa del Sol resort of Torremolinos. The Federal Road Safety Corps has directed its staff to impound any vehicle violating the lockdown order. FRSC tweeted about this on Tuesday, adding that it would step up the enforcement of the restrictions in the states where it is in force. Army denies killing civilians in Borno airstrike

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has denied killing civilians in an airstrike carried out by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole at Shokotoko village, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, on Thursday April 9.  It was reported earlier today that 13 civilians including children were killed in the airstrike conducted in the Borno village. Coordinator Defence Media Operation, Major General John Enenche however debunked the claim in a statement. A 22-year-old Nigerian student has been arrested in Budapest, the Hungary's capital, after a sex worker accused him of rape. According to the police statement, a woman made a complaint on Saturday that she was raped in an apartment in District 7. The woman told the detectives that she had met the man on a website which advertises sexual services. According to the woman, on April 11, at around 3 PM, the man came to her house to have sex with her. When she asked him to pay before having her, he refused and that was when she told him to leave her house. The woman further said the Nigerian man refused to leave her home and instead started choking her, after which he allegedly raped her and then fled the scene. Four members of a  family have died after their building collapsed while they were sleeping, and three others were rescued, including a one-year-old boy. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that four members of a family died in a collapsed building at Saberi area in Gwale Local Government Area, on Monday, April 13. The driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle was involved in a lone accident on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. China approves two more trials for coronavirus vaccines

China has approved clinical trials for two more experimental vaccines to combat the novel coronavirus, officials said Tuesday, as the world’s scientists race to beat the pandemic.
