AC Milan in advanced talks with Chelsea over deal for centre back

AC Milan is in advanced talks with Chelsea over a deal for centre back, Fikayo Tomori, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Serie A leaders have been chasing a new centre back this transfer window to strengthen their title bid.

According to Romano, the deal is a straight loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy for €30 million in the summer.

AC Milan are hopeful of completing the deal in the next few days

However, a report from Simon Johnson of The Athletic said that AC Milan has asked Chelsea to include an option to buy worth £26.7 million in the deal.

If triggered, it would mean Tomori would join the Italian side permanently at the end of the season.

The England defender has made just one Premier League appearance for Chelsea this season.

Tomori has demonstrated his qualities but has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

He has made 16 Premier League appearances since Frank Lampard became manager in June 2019.

Injuries have disrupted his time but he now has a great opportunity to impress in one of Europe’s elite leagues.

Tomori is the man AC Milan have turned to following the collapse of other deals.

Strasbourg defender, Mohamed Simakan was their top target but he sustained an injury which will keep him out for a couple of months.

Milan’s other target was Toulouse defender Kouadio Kone but that deal appears to have gone quiet.

A move to Serie A appears an attractive option for talented centre-back Tomori. He has pace, is good on the ball and can read the game well.

Tomori’s arrival provides another option for Pioli whose side face a busy second half of the season.

They will compete for the league title as well as the Europa League.

With a busy schedule, Tomori will be confident game time will be available to him. An impressive spell could even earn a permanent move if he wants it.
