Mourinho appeals to referee to treat him like Jurgen Klopp ahead of Tottenham vs Liverpool

2 Mins read

Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho has urged referee Martin Atkinson to treat him in the same way as Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp when the two sides meet on Thursday.

Spurs host Liverpool on Thursday evening in a crucial game in the Premier League title race.

Mourinho has the opportunity to take his side above the champions in the table, while Liverpool are fighting to avoid slipping further down the table after being overtaken by West Ham already this week.

With so much on the line, it will be tense on the touchline, and the Spurs manager has issued a warning over his counterpart.

Having previously spoken about Klopp’s behaviour on the sidelines, Mourinho has now urged Atkinson to treat both managers the same when they meet this evening.

With so much on the line, it will be tense on the touchline, and the Spurs manager has issued a warning over his counterpart.

Having previously spoken about Klopp’s behaviour on the sidelines, Mourinho has now urged Atkinson to treat both managers the same when they meet this evening.

He expressed that he feels he’s often been treated harshly compared to Klopp, who has rarely got himself in trouble with the authorities.

A charge for over-celebrating after Divock Origi’s late winner in the 2018 Merseyside derby and another for questioning the integrity of an official are the only two blots on the German’s record.

And Mourinho believes that having been slapped on the wrist more than once himself, he feels hard done by.

“What I can say, is when I didn’t behave well I paid the price,” Mourinho said to his pre-match press conference. .

“And I paid the price in two ways: one was to see matches on TV in the dressing room and another price was big-money fines.

“I feel that, for some of the other guys, it doesn’t happen the same.

“But, if the referee and the fourth official are there to do that job, I just hope they do that job and act the way they have to act.”

Tottenham are going into this evening’s clash in red-hot form, having won five of their last six games across all competitions.

Liverpool, however, are looking to bounce back after failing to win this year, and having crashed out of the FA Cup last weekend to Manchester United.
