An escaped guard dog has mauled two girls aged two and three in a shocking street attack in Birmingham.
The two girls were both injured during the attack in the Saltley area of the city, with one dragged around in the dog’s mouth ‘like a rag doll’.
It is understood that a guard dog escaped from nearby business premises before attacking the two girls.
They are not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
Footage shared on Facebook shows the dog attacking the girls and a woman.
Officers from West Midlands Police were called to reports of a dog attack in St Saviour’s Road, Birmingham, just after 12.30pm on Monday.
The three-year-old had hand and leg injuries after being bitten and the two year-old had scratch marks and a leg injury.
In the shocking footage, piercing screams rang out as the woman tried to fight off the dog.
A passing driver stopped at the scene and other people ran out of their homes to help.
One man from a car tried to prize the child away from the dog and the girls were eventually placed in the man’s car for their safety.
Police said the animal has been seized.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said both children were treated at the scene before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
He added, “We had multiple calls reporting a dog attack on two young girls on St Saviours Road in the Saltley area of Birmingham at around 12.35pm this lunchtime.
“An ambulance was immediately sent to the scene. On arrival, the crew found the two girls, one with serious injuries.
“They were both assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where medics were awaiting their arrival.
“Their condition is not life threatening.”
It comes just days after Keira Ludlow, 25, died after being attacked by a dog inside a property in Kitts Green, Birmingham.
