The convict, who was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery, had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

An Abeokuta High Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Ibrahim Toyin, to death by hanging for robbing a woman of her handbag at gunpoint.
Justice Ayokunle Rotimi-Balogun, in her judgement on Wednesday, however, said evidence tendered by the prosecution convinced the court beyond any reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offences.
She subsequently sentenced Toyin to death by hanging.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Mrs Margret Sodeke, said the convict committed the offences on August 25, 2012, at Power Line Junction, Sabo, Sagamu.
Sodeke explained that while the complainant, Titilayo Eniola, was coming from her shop around 10pm, the convict, and others now at large, stopped her and pointed a locally-made pistol at her.
She said the convict took away the complainant’s handbag, containing N15,000, ATM cards, the Holy Bible and other valuables.
The prosecutor said the convict was arrested by members of the Oodua Peoples Congress.
