When one thinks of a king, most of the time the image that comes to mind is one of a much older man who must have been ruling for a really long amount of time. The reality is that for the most part, that is the case around many parts of the world, and it certainly is the case as well here in Nigeria.
However, sometimes and it is almost always because of the death of the existing much-older king, a successor to the throne is needed and sometimes, even when the child isn’t necessarily old enough, he is thrust into the royal throne and instantly made king.
Today, we’re counting down 3 times when this happened and as a result, we will be counting down the 3 Youngest Kings in Nigeria.
Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze – 18 Years Old
In 2016, at the young age of just 18 years old, Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze took over the crown of kingship in the Ubulu-Uku kingdom of the Aniocha Local Government Area in Delta State. Before the other people on this list, he held the title of the youngest king in Nigeria.
Thankfully, the position of king didn’t stop Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze from continuing to pursue his education. In 2019, he graduated from a university in the United Kingdom where he studied law.
Obi is now 23 years old and according to reports from The Guardian, he is very beloved by members of the community and hailed as a good king despite his age.
Oloyede Adeyeoba – 15 Years Old
In 2020, at the very tender age of 15 years old, Oloyede Adeyeoba was appointed as the King Arujale of Okeluse in the Ose Local Government area of Ondo State.
Now 16, Oloyode is only a secondary school student. He is the only surviving son of his late father and so as a result, the crown was immediately passed down on to him upon his father’s passing.
The appointed was recognized by the council presided over by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Akubuisi Okonkwo – 10 Years Old
By far the youngest person on our list, Akubuisi Okonkwo was crowned the king of Iyiora Anam kingdom in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State on January 7, 2020. He was only 10 years old at the time of his crowning.
A 10 Year Old King! Can you believe it?
After the death of his father, His Royal Highness Igwe Onyeachonam Okonkwo, the Olame 1 of Iyiora Anam, Akubuisi was sworn in as the rightful next heir to the throne.
Akubuisi is now 11 years old and is ruling as king under the advisement and guidance of older more experienced and knowledgeable people who worked with his father and are relaying to him all that he needs to know about ruling and helping him along the way.
