A gun was fired, hitting Olivia in the chest, and she later died in hospital.
Armed police have arrested a man on suspicion of shooting dead nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.
The 36-year-old was taken into custody following a police raid in Merseyside last night.
He is also being questioned for two counts of attempted murder following an incident in Dovecot on Monday night.
Olivia’s mother, Cheryl, opened her front door after hearing a noise outside on the street.
A 35-year-old man ran inside, swiftly followed by another man.

Joseph Nee, 35, was earlier arrested for breaching the terms of his prison release and he is expected to be questioned over Olivia’s death.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen added that the 35-year-old had allegedly breached his licence conditions with ‘poor behaviour’ and had been detained in hospital.
Merseyside Police said: ‘A 35-year-old man, suspected to have been the target of the shooting, has been detained in hospital on a prison recall after breaching the terms of his licence.
‘He will be recalled to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence. He will be further questioned in connection with the murder and remains in a stable condition.’
Nee suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body and, as Olivia lay dying, was picked up and taken to hospital by friends driving a dark-coloured Audi.
A message on a box of flowers left among tributes at the scene this week read: ‘So sorry for your loss of beautiful Olivia. Rest in peace, thinking of all family. Nee family.’
