Welcome to gistoftheday live coverage of Chelsea vs Red Bull Salzburg from Stamford Bridge.
It is the first game of the Graham Potter era following the shock sacking of Thomas Tuchel a week ago. This will be the only game Chelsea will play for the rest of September, with both the Fulham and Liverpool games postponed with respect to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Potter will be hoping for a bright start following the dismal defeat at Zagreb in the first round of the Champions League group stage. The 47-year-old has a mostly fit squad to choose from, with the two exceptions being N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy, both out with injury.
This is the first time Chelsea and the Austrian champions will meet in competitive action, with Matthias Jaissle’s side drawing 1-1 at home to AC Milan last week. Salzburg boasts talented Brazillian Fernando with Benjamin Sesko, who was linked to Chelsea over the summer, also providing a threat in the final third.
Potter’s first Chelsea lineup will be highly intriguing, over the formation, the personnel and how tactically the Blues look over the course of this evening.
Join Adam Newson, Scott Trotter and Daniel Childs for all of the build-up and match updates throughout the evening, with kick-off at 8.00 PM below.
