A man in Delta stabs his roommate to death over a N300 electricity bill.

A man identified as Godstime Oke has allegedly killed his friend and roommate, Gaga Allia over N300 electricity bill in Okumagba layout, Warri, Delta State.

The incident occurred at about 10 pm, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in their one-room apartment  

It was gathered that Oke and Allia got into a fight which led to Oke allegedly stabbing the deeased in the neck with a broken bottle.

Allia eventually bled to death as a result of the severity of the injury.

The suspect reportedly fled to the Ugborikoko area, neighbouring Warri after committing the act but was caught and handed over to the Nigerian Police Force ‘B’ Division on Thursday, December 15. 

During interrogation, Oke explained that he was the one collecting money for their compound since there was a light problem in their neighborhood.

According to him, the fight broke out when Gaga refused to refund the sum of N300 which a tenant had paid to him when he was not around.

He claimed that during the fight that ensued between the two of them, one of his friends Tega, who was around, broke a bottle, gave it to him which he then used to stab Allia to death.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said efforts were ongoing to apprehend Tega, the alleged accomplice.

A mother and son were found dead in a murder-suicide on the University of California, Irvine, campus Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Andrew Nguyen Doan, 36, a former student of the school, picked up his 77-year-old mother Thao Nguyen and “threw her” off a multi-story campus building before jumping to his own death around 4 p.m., investigators said Wednesday. Dec, 14.

Though Doan’s motive remains unknown, police said they had interacted with the former UC Irvine student “multiple times in the past.”

The Irvine Police Department last dealt with him in regard to a “mental health concern” in 2019 while he was attending the school.

Doan was a biological sciences major at school from September 2017 to June 2019, UCI spokesman Tom Vasich told the Los Angeles Times.

Doan never graduated and no longer had an affiliation with the university.

Doan was admitted to a mental institution sometime in 2019 and sexually battered his roommate, an Orange County district attorney’s office spokesperson told the LA Times. He was arrested but was released from custody after his mother posted his $100,000 bail.

After pleading guilty to the charges, Doan was sentenced to 156 days in jail and given three years probation, which ended in July this year, Orange County Superior Court records state.

Doan and Nguyen lived together in Irvine. Their longtime neighbor Michael Bertin told the Press-Telegram that Doan was known as a “troubled young man.”

Bertin said: “(Doan) had demons. It’s a horrible thing.”

Mysterious illness breaks out at Eregi Girls School in Kenya as more than 90 students struggle to walk At least 95 students from Eregi Girls Secondary School in Kenya have been hospitalised at various hospitals following an outbreak of a mysterious illness in the school. The students were admitted to Kakamega County General Hospital (KCGH), Iguhu, and Shibwe sub-county hospitals.
