Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have reportedly “refused” to go into the Victoria Garden City area in Lagos State for the conduct of the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the area on Saturday.

A video shared on Twitter by @Vakkane1 showed the officials sitting under a tent outside the area.

The tweep captioned the tweet, “INEC officials refused to go inside VGC where the polling units are distributed insisting that they were instructed to stay outside VGC for the voting.”

The chairman of the VGC while giving a report on Arise TV, said, “We are hearing that due to some security concerns during the presidential election, the polling units have been moved outside the community.

“The problem we’re having as residents is that there’s no formal communication that this is going to be done.

“People are of the feeling that they’ve been disenfranchised that they don’t have the prerequisite information that they need to make the decision to vote here.

“There are a lot of questions around the legality of this polling unit.”

He said they were waiting for more information. He added that INEC staff asked them to sign an undertaking guaranteeing their safety.
