Court Grants House Majority Leader Alhassan Doguwa Bail

The House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who is accused of the alleged killing of some persons on election day, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Muhammad Yunusa.

Doguwa was detained by the police last week and subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur on six count charges including culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, mischief by firearm and inciting disturbances.

He was remanded in prison till March 7 but was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Kano on Monday.


In other news, An unidentified middle-aged man has been killed by a hit-and-run driver while another man was seriously injured in an accident which occurred along Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State, The PUNCH reports.

The incident, it was learnt, occurred on Sunday, around Olooru/Okoolowo axis of the expressway, before Shao junction in Moro Local Government of the state.

The two men were standing beside the road when the vehicle veered off the road and hit them. While one of the two men died instantly, the other man was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment, The PUNCH gathered.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State, Mr Ade Ogidan, confirmed the incident during a telephone chat with our correspondent on Monday.

According to him, “Two people (male) were hit during the incident but one of them died while the other sustained bruises and fractures.

“The FRSC team later took both the injured victim and the corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Oke-Oyi, Ilorin.”

Ogidan, who only described the vehicle as a “red coloured private boxer,” implored drivers to desist from excessive speeding and reckless driving.

He equally advised pedestrians and other roads users to exercise patience while trying to cross highways to prevent being knocked down by vehicles.
