CNN CEO Chris Licht sacked

CNN Chairman Chris Licht announced his resignation from his position effective immediately according to an official statement released today by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.

The enterprise has arranged for four senior executives - Amy Entelis (EVP talent & content development).

Virginia Moseley (EVP editorial).

Eric Sherling (EVP US programming) and David Leavy (COO) to assume interim leadership positions until Chriss' replacement is appointed.

Prior to leaving office last week. Chris served exactly thirteen months in his role.

The move followed criticism leveled at CNN after they broadcasted a contentious town hall meeting featuring former President Donald Trump on May 10th earlier this year. In the interview Trump made baseless accusations regarding cheating in relation to last years' election result; he also promised a pardon for anyone who was charged over their involvement in the January Capitol attack were he elected again as president while calling Kaitlan Collins–the interviewer–as being "nasty".

Despite additional efforts being made by CNN to retain their Republican viewers over the past few years their ratings have consistently dropped.

In response David Zaslav - Chief Executive Officer at Warner Bros. Discovery reached out to staff in an email reiterating his commitment towards seeking candidates from both within and external to the company while acknowledging that Chris poured his heart and soul into his position:“Unfortunately things did not work out the way we had hoped – and ultimately thats on me.”
