Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn alongside the families affected by a vicious knife attack in Annecy early this morning French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne says

According to local officials. Eight young children and one adult were injured in what can only be described as a senseless act of violence.

All eight children attacked were around three years old; tragically.

Three are currently in life threatening condition receiving medical attention for their injuries.

The perpetrator has been detained by authorities following swift action from police.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed via Twitter that "several people including children have been injured" in Annecys' central square today due to a lone attacker armed with a knife." An investigation into this abominable event is now underway.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is on her way to survey the scene and walk beside those impacted by todays' events. Meanwhile.

Lawmakers gathered together today holding a moment of silence at Parliament for those seriously injured.

While regional authorities continue efforts today to deter locals from the attacked zone, our thoughts and prayers are with those suffering due to this violent act.

BFM TV reported that the attack had happened in a park and that the assailant had been a Syrian asylum seeker.
