WWE legend Iron Sheik is dead

The wrestling world mourns the loss of a true great with the passing of The Iron Sheik at age 81.

WWE legend Iron Sheik is dead

His contributions as former heavyweight champion and WWE Hall Of Famer are immeasurable.

Born in Iran back in '42.

The Iron Sheik quickly climbed up wrestling ranks for being one of its most fearsome heels. Winning over Backlund earned him the prestigious championship title in 1983.

He formed a formidable tag team with Nikolai Volkoff and together they won the WWF Tag Team title in '85. Few rivalries were as memorable as The Iron Sheik and Hulk Hogans' . Their battles remain highlighted in fans' minds till this day.

Until Hogan emerged victorious against the Iranian superstar for the championship belt. His contributions to wrestling earned him induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame class of 2005 by longtime rival and former partner Sukhjit "Sgt." Slaughter.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to The Iron Sheiks family, friends, and fans after this tragic loss. He leaves behind his wife Caryl of 47 years and children who will all cherish his memory forevermore.
