In Ondo State, Akure Magistrates' Court has handed down a one-year sentence to Taiye Adelabu, a 53-year-old man, for the theft of a motorcycle. Adelabu will serve his sentence in a correctional center.
Magistrate Tope Aladejana, sentenced the convict without an option of fine.
According to the court, the Prosecution had proved the allegation against him beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliamon, had earlier told the court that the convict committed the offences on July 12, 2023, at about 11.40 am at Owe-Akala street, Oke- Aro, Akure
He said Adelabu stole one new unregistered red motorcycle with engine number: TA40/3181493 and chasis number BLOJA4090PN, valued at N550,000, belonging to one John Chinedu.
According to the prosecutor, the convict went to the complainant’s shop to steal the motorcycle at the point of sale, when the actual buyer was about paying for it.
Suliamon said that the offences contravened Sections 319(9)of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006
Adelabu who begged the court for leniency, admitted to committing the offences. He claimed to be under a spell.
While sentencing the convict, the magistrate said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.
