Shahida, the daughter of the former Emir of Kano, recently shared her perspective on the responsibility of paying rent within a marriage. In a statement posted on her Instagram story on Sunday, September 10, she expressed the belief that men should take on the primary responsibility for rent payments, even if their wives have the financial means to contribute.
Shahida, who is a mother of three, made this statement in response to a recent conversation between skit maker Kiekie and media personality Toke Makinwa. While the exact details of Kiekie's conversation with Toke Makinwa were not provided, it seems to have prompted Shahida to share her thoughts on the matter.
The content creator, real name, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, said women should split house rent with their husbands.
"How will you be living in the house and not paying rent? For me, it does not make sense. So that when we fight, we will share everything equally. You cannot tell me to get out of my house. We are living together,” she said.
Commenting on a post, Shahida wrote: Nope. God forbid bad thing. Ok but seriously times are hard. If you have the means and your husband is trying of course, chip in. But if he can afford to abeg it's his responsibility even if you have money. Anyway….Alhamdulillah,"
