A Ghanaian man identified simply as Abeiku is reportedly on the run after killing his wife following a misunderstanding they had. Local publications reported that the man killed his wife in the Eastern Region of Ghana, after his first attempt to poison her failed. It was gathered that Abeiku had attempted to poison his wife’s food which failed after she found out and refused to touch the food. As the days went by, their misunderstanding escalated with the man threatening to end her life. Starr FM reported that the woman went to live with her mother in Begoro area of the same region after the marriage which produced two children failed. She was however killed after reconciling with her husband and moving back to her matrimonial home. The police in Lagos state have arrested a mother and her partner for allegedly battering her two children aged 5 and 2. The woman identified as Busola Oyediran and her partner, Akebiara Emmanuel, were arrested on Friday, January 13, by the police following reports by neighbours. The concerned neighbours had alerted the police of the consant physical abuse of the minors by their biological mother and her partner. Following the report, the police stormed the Egbeda/Idimu home of the couple and arrested them. The police later visited the hospital where the neighbours had taken the battered children for treatment. THE Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly impregnating 10 ladies. The suspect, Noble Uzuchi, was nabbed with his accomplice, Chigozie Ogbonna, 29. According to the authorities, the two suspects and two other ladies, Favour Bright and Peace Alikoi, were allegedly running a baby factory. A 19-year-old lady, Cynthia Ikade, was arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for conspiring with a gang to rob her former employer, Esther Okanlawon, of N2.8 million, and other valuables. On Thursday, January 12, 2023, Ikade was arraigned along with her accomplises, Pius Sunday, 28, and Loveth Uloko, 20. No fewer than Ten persons were confirmed dead on Saturday in an accident involving a Mack truck and a Toyota Hiace bus at the Oniworo area on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta. Umar  explained that the accident occurred at 4: 30 a.m. The FRSC boss noted that the accident was caused by road obstruction on the part of the trailer and also excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the driver of the bus. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the discovery of oil in Nasarawa State. The corporation also stated that it’s prepared to drill the first foot of an oil well in the North-Central state. According to the NNPCL, the discovery was part of its continued oil exploration activities in the country’s inland basins, disclosing that the spud-in ceremony of the first oil well in Nasarawa State will hold in March 2023. Prohibition and excise sleuths arrested a Nigerian drug peddler and seized 178 grams of cocaine from him. The accused was arrested by the excise team a few months ago in another cocaine peddling case. Acting on specific information, a Task Force team arrested Ngwuchukwu Godwin Ifeanyi (32) near Huda Park in Vanasthalipuram in the early hours of Saturday. The team seized 24 grams of cocaine in his possession and subsequently the team raided his rented house at LIG colony in Vanasthalipuram. “From his house, we seized 154 grams of cocaine, ” excise superintendent K Pradeep Rao said. “ About five months ago, he was arrested by Dhoolpet excise team for peddling in cocaine. Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of seven of the nine charges against him. After a trial lasting almost five months, the Manchester City defender has been cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. However, after 13 days of deliberation at Chester Crown Court, the jury has been unable to reach verdicts on two other charges against Mendy – one count of rape, involving a woman aged 24 in October 2020, and one count of attempted rape, involving a woman aged 29 in October 2018. The Crown Prosecution Service has seven days to decide whether to pursue a retrial on the two charges where a verdict could not be agreed. Mendy held his head in his hands as the verdicts were read out. Mendy’s co-accused, Louis Saha Matturie, has been found not guilty of three charges. He faces a possible retrial on six charges. Manchester City suspended Mendy when he was arrested in August 2021 and stopped paying him in September 2021. His contract expires this summer.

The  presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said whoever works against him in Kano in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election will regret it. POLICE RESCUE TEENAGERS FROM FORCED PROSTITUTION Officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have rescued three teenagers from prostitution at the Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. A Manhattan, New York jury on Thursday January 12, said sportswear giants, Adidas AG had failed to show luxury brand, Thom Browne Inc’s use of stripes on its clothing infringed the sportswear giant’s signature three-stripe trademark. Adidas sued New York designer Thom Browne’s brand in 2021, claiming Thom Browne’s four-bar and “Grosgrain” stripe patterns on its shoes and high-end activewear violated its three-stripe trademark rights. Adidas has filed over 90 lawsuits and signed more than 200 settlement agreements since 2008 related to the trademark, according to court documents in the case.
