Rescued Nigerian Students Arrive Egypt, Await Airlift

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has given some update on the Nigerians being rescued from Sudan. Dabiri-Erewa, on Thursday, confirmed the arrival of the first set of stranded Nigerians in Sudan at the Aswan border in Egypt. Dabiri-Erewa, who confirmed the development in a post on Twitter, said the border was already closed when the students got there, adding that they would proceed to the airport in the morning. “The first set has arrived at the Aswan border in Egypt but the border is already closed. They will leave early in the morning and then proceed to the airport,” the tweet read partly. A French national has been remanded in Agodi Correctional facility on the orders of the Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo. Emilien Salingue is facing a charge of defilement of a six-year-old girl, NAN reports. On Friday, the Chief Magistrate, P. O. Adetuyibi did not take the plea of 18-year-old Salingue for want in jurisdiction. Mrs Adetuyibi ordered his remand pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The senior judicial officer adjourned the matter until July 20 for mention. The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oluwakemi Arowosaye told the court that Salingue defiled the minor on April 7 at about 1.25pm The police officer stated that the suspect lured the girl to his friend’s room where he allegedly raped her. Lawyer allegedly kills husband after he discovered their 19-year-old domestic worker is her biological son

The deceased, who are said to be members of the Good News International Church, were reportedly instructed by their pastor, Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, to starve themselves to death in order to “meet Jesus”. According to the Kenya Broadcasting Station (KBC), 58 graves have been identified so far, and dead children were also exhumed.
