Jacob Olalekan Ponle popularly known as Mr Woodberry has been to eight years and three months in prison for coordinating a multimillion-dollar fraud. Mr Woodberry who is a known associate of imprisoned Nigerian fraudster, Hushpuppi, was sentenced on July 11 by Judge Robert Gettleman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago, after being convicted on one count of fraud. It was also learnt that seven other counts were dismissed following a plea bargain in April. The convict is now expected to surrender to U.S. Marshal Service for onward transfer to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, where his family members, especially his American fiancée, would be allowed to visit him.  Mr Woodberry who will be deported after serving out his prison sentence, will pay seven victims about $8 million in restitution. The court discovered that he has the capacity to make the full payment but waived all interests on the restitution value.

Men of the Bayelsa State Police command have arrested three suspects in connection with the lynching of a 32-year-old man, Ebimotimi Freeborn, accused of stealing bread along the Tombia-Amassoma Road, in the Yenagoa area of the state. The deceased was said to have been caught stealing bread from a shop. A mob descended on him, beating him to his death. In a statement released, the spokesperson of the state police command, Asinim Butswat, said three suspects have been identified as Preye Mathew, Theophilus Tiro and Famous Precious. “The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the mob action by an unruly crowd, which led to the death of Ebimotimi Freeborn, 32. The suspects, Preye Mathew, 50, Theophilus Tiro, 28, and Famous Precious, 22, were arrested on July 9, 2023, around 5pm along the Tombia- Amassoma Road, after an angry mob lynched the suspect to death for allegedly stealing bread. Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al Nassr have been sanctioned by world football governing body, FIFA over a transfer issue involving Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa. Al Nassr have been banned from registering new players going into the new Saudi Arabia Professional League season after failing to pay Leicester City the money they owe them over Musa’s transfer. Musa linked up with Al Nassr in 2018 after impressing at the World Cup in Russia. Al Nassr paid Leicester City €16.50m to secure the services of Musa but the Saudi Pro League side are however yet to pay the add-ons, despite The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordering them to do so. Al-Nassr were ordered to pay the Foxes €460,000 in performance-related add-ons. The Saudi Arabian giants failure to obey CAS’ ruling , which has now forced FIFA to ban them from registering new players ahead of the new season.

 The police in Lagos state have found a baby dumped inside a sewage tank.  A statement released by the command says the baby was dumped around the Gowon estate area of the state. Posting photos of the baby on its Twitter handle, the command wrote; ‘’A day-old female baby was found in a sewage tank at about 8:30am today. Officers of Gowon Estate Division, upon being alerted, promptly arrived at the scene. The baby was taken for immediate medical attention at a health center and is doing well.‘’

Reports have emerged that a nanny has gone missing with her employer's baby boy in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.  The incident was brought to light by an Abuja-based business owner, who took to Instagram on Monday, July 10, 2023, to share the distressing news.  The nanny allegedly left the estate with the baby and has not returned since. The missing child's mother is said to be battling cancer, adding to the urgency and concern for the safe return of the baby.  The Instagram post called for assistance in locating the baby and requested prayers for his safe return.

The federal government has outlined its plan to make use of technology to monitor revenue collection in real time.  Zacchaeus Adedeji, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Revenue disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television. He said they will be integrating the activities of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other revenue collection agencies. Adedeji also said they will be able to increase the country’s total annual revenue which is currently below N15 trillion, without imposing extra taxes. It is suspected that Mack was subjected to torture and dismemberment using a chainsaw. The details surrounding this tragic event have shocked and alarmed the local community. Officers said the real estate broker's head, torso, and limbs had been severed and left in plastic bags in the chest freezer. Miss Nkechinyere Umeh, the candidate with the highest score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) has been offered scholarship by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state.  The gesture followed the recent JAMB declaration of Umeh from Anambra State as the highest scorer with a cumulative mark of 360 in the examination. Soludo's chief Press secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said the Governor has congratulated her for making the state proud with her exceptional performance. The statement read;  “In further celebration of Miss Umeh’s feat, Governor Soludo has announced a well-deserved scholarship for her to study any course of her choice at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra State. According to local reports, the dismembered body of a German real estate tycoon who went missing last week has been discovered inside a freezer at a rental home in Thailand.  Hans Peter Mack, 62, had been missing since July 4 when his 24-year-old Thai wife said he failed to come home from a business meeting, according to the Bangkok Post. His remains were discovered in a freezer on Monday evening, July 10 in the Pattaya home reportedly rented by a German friend of Mack, the Pattaya News reported.
